Sabrina Bong ‘11 is a first year Master’s student in School Counseling program. Though new to graduate school, she is not a stranger to Marquette, having graduated in May with majors in Broadcast and Electronic Communication and Psychology. In addition to blogging, Sabrina enjoys reading, cooking, and attending any Wisconsin sporting event. While her heart bleeds green and gold, she also likes the Brew Crew, the Admirals, and – of course! - Marquette’s great Golden Eagles! In her spare time, Sabrina volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Johnathan Sumpter is a native of the Texas Panhandle, but is currently enjoying the cooler weather in Wisconsin. He is a Masters student in the Community Counseling General Adult Track and is completing an internship placement at Aurora Family Services and at Aurora West Allis Memorial in the Acute Care for the Elderly Ward. Jonathon also works at group homes for developmentally disabled adults. Prior to attending Marquette, Jonathon attended the seminary, worked in youth and young adult ministries and as a spiritual director. He has worked with a variety of programs assisting children, and has been involved with community development programs in Honduras, Peru, and Mexico.

Ryan Manning ’11 graduated from Marquette with an M.Ed. in College Student Personnel Administration. During his time at Marquette, he worked in Residence Life as the Assistant Hall Director in Schroeder Hall. Originally from Boston, Ryan recently relocated to the East Coast to begin his first year as a Resident Director at the University of Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. He is responsible primarily for managing the daily operations of 4 residence halls housing a total of 560 students including supervising the Resident Assistant staff and providing individual support and guidance to the community’s residents.
Teacher Education Bloggers
Stephanie Rappe ’10, graduated from Marquette with her degree in Elementary Education and Psychology. She was born in Milwaukee and attended Catholic Memorial High School. Stephanie is a middle child with two sisters, one of whom also attended Marquette. She is a HUGE fan of the Milwaukee Brewers Marquette Basketball (of course!). Stephanie is about to begin her first year teaching third graders at the Hmong American Peace Academy in Milwaukee.
Colleen Ryan ’10 graduated from Marquette with a degree in Elementary Education and Communication Studies. For as long as she remembers she has always wanted to be a teacher because teachers have the ability to impact lives each and every day. She will be starting her first year of teaching at the Hmong American Peace Academy teaching K5.
Nick McDaniels ’09 graduated from Marquette with majors in English and secondary education and a minor in environmental ethics. He currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife Amie, his daughter Charlotte, Snort the dog and Snuggins the cat. He is pursuing a Masters Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision at Johns Hopkins University.
Wisconsin Teachers of the Year
High School Teacher of the Year, Claudia Felske, graduated from Marquette with a bachelor of arts degree in Writing Intensive English. She earned her teaching certificate and a master’s degree in creative writing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. A Nationally Board Certified Teacher and published author, Felske teaches grades 9-12 English and serves as English Department Chair at East Troy High School in the East Troy Community School District.
Wisconsin Special Services Teacher of the Year, Peggy Wuenstel, received her Bachelor of Science in Communicative Disorders from Marquette University in 1980 and her M.S. in 1982. Peggy has been a pediatric Speech/Language Pathologist in southeastern Wisconsin for 28 years. She has never once gone a year without either providing services in a school or attending classes in another educational institution. “Maybe it is being left handed and having an Rh negative blood type,” she jokes, “but I have consistently been drawn to serve the outliers in our world – those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Visual Impairment, or Communication challenges, and finding ways to connect.”
