Bloggers In and Bloggers Out and About

By Lori Fredrich — I don’t often pop my head out from behind the scenes these days; I’m too busy digging up great stories for our print publications or promoting the College on Twitter and Facebook.

But, it’s been such honor to work with all the great bloggers this year on the Marquette Educator blog that I wanted to express a very public THANK YOU to each one of them.

I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s been an enjoyable ride during the last few months– whether you were following along with the adventures of counseling graduate students Jonathon Sumpter and Sabrina Bong;  hearing about the victories and mishaps of our new teacher bloggers, Colleen Ryan and Stephanie Rappe;  basking in the wise words of Wisconsin Teachers of the Year, Maureen Look-Ainsworth, Claudia Felske, or Peggy Wuenstel; awaiting the pop-culture studded student affairs tales of Ryan Manning ; or hearing about the political landscape of the Baltimore teaching scene from Nick McDaniels.

However, as much as we’ll miss all those familiar voices, I’m also very excited to welcome a new crew of bloggers for Summer 2012.  We have an impressive group of students sharing their summer adventures — completing internships in Kuwait and at UW-Waukesha, studying abroad in South Africa and Italy, working at Spanish Language Camp in Minnesota, or participating in programs like Jumpstart in Washington D.C. or Breakthrough Fort Worth. For more information on these new bloggers, check out their photos and bios on our “Summer 2012 Bloggers” page.

We’ll also be running an inspirational series entitled the “Celebration of Teaching.”  We’ve asked students, alumni and friends of the college (as well as a few local celebrities) to share their stories about teachers who really made a difference in their lives.  And we’ll be sharing their stories with you throughout the summer.

So, stay tuned. And please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have feedback, suggestions, or if you’d be interested in doing a little bit of writing for us!  I’m just an email away at

And… before I forget…  if you enjoy what you see, I’d like to encourage you to sign up for the Marquette Educator’s weekly email digest.  Just one extra email a week and you’ll keep up with all the great posts by your fellow students, faculty, alumni, and community members.

By day, you’ll find Lori Fredrich roaming the hallowed halls of the College of Education, interacting with followers through social media, and searching for the next big story about the great work done by COED faculty, students, and alums.  By night, she spends her time cooking, eating and writing about local, seasonal food on her blog, Burp! and at
